Barrel Unions

When your piping system requires frequent access for servicing, cleaning, or modification, a PE100 barrel union is the ideal engineered solution. Also known as three-piece unions, these fittings allow rapid disassembly and reassembly of pipework sections without the need for cutting or re-welding.

What is a Barrel Union?

A barrel union is a mechanical pipe fitting used to join two pipes so they can be detached without disturbing the rest of the pipeline. It consists of three parts: two internal ends (spigots) and a threaded nut that draws them together against a high-quality O-ring seal.

In above-ground HDPE pipe systems, barrel unions provide a compact alternative to bulky flanged joints, making them perfect for pump stations, dosing skids, and manifolds where space is limited.

Whether installed during the initial build or cut into an existing line later, these unions offer flexibility for industrial maintenance:

  • Fast Disassembly: Simply unscrew the central nut to isolate a section of pipe or a piece of equipment.

  • Leak-Proof Sealing: The internal O-ring ensures a tight seal even in systems with minor vibrations or thermal expansion.

  • Compact Design: Ideal for tight spaces where a traditional stub flange and backing ring setup would be too large to fit.

Our barrel unions are manufactured to meet the rigorous demands of Australian industrial and mining environments.

  • Rated to PN10 (1000 kPa), covering the majority of above-ground industrial piping requirements.

  • Made to SDR11 PE100 specifications for maximum chemical and impact resistance.

  • In stock from 20mm to 110mm.
